The Concept of Author Film - Ingmar Bergman

When a few months ago Ingmar Bergman(89) and Michelangelo Antonioni (94) died in one night, two of the most seminal filmmakers in European film, many obituaries saw it as a twilight of the gods for the principle of author film. We believe that our newcomers' festivals proves author film to be more alive than ever and shows its teeth to the "cinema of bank notes" (Alexander Kluge). Author film is not a temporary phenomenon of the 70s and it will always be the counterpart of the "cinema of sensations". We do not want to be nostalgic by showing a retrospective of the grand master filmmaker Ingmar Bergman but we want to show how fresh and alive his oevre is.
In 1957, Bergman looked into the future which is now our present. The works we have selected show the eternal Young and Resilient of author film as represented by Ingmar Bergman, long before the French film critics and filmmakers of the Nouvelle Vague invented the term author film.
All films are shown in their original language with English subtitles.
NEW!!!
