Terra sonambula - Sleepwalking Land

Mozambique- Teresa Prata

Scene from "Terra Sonambula"
Mozambique in the middle of civil war which stands for all civil wars in Africa. A young boy and a thin old man. They settle in a torched bus. But first, they have to bury the dead bodies. “Don’t worry, the fire has cleansed them”, the old man says to console the boy who is afraid of the ghosts of the dead.. Tuahir will have to protect young Muidinga several times using his life experiences. It’s dangerous to run because of the landmines, there are artful traps lurking everywhere and marauding soldiers are better to be avoided. Muidinga finds a diary which tells the story of a woman who is looking for her son. The two narrative levels begin to intertwine but the both tell the story of a country traumatised by war an pain and people looking for peace.
Based on stories by Mozamique poet Mia Couto.
The film is a result of the MANNHEIM MEETINGS 2004.
