Les fourmis rouges - Red Ants

Belgium - By Stéphan Carpiaux

Scene from "Les fourmis rouges"
16-years-old Alex manages a lonely gas station in the Belgian mountains together with her father. Father Frank has fallen into a deep apathy after his wife's death. Alex has to make sure that things work out although she misses her mother herself as well. At the same time she is busy becoming a grown-up. She gradually slips into the role of replacement wife until she meets 22-years-old Hector who opens her eyes. He has almost the same problem with his aunt. He grew up with her and she does not want to let go of him. Alex understands that she has to deal with her grief and to pull her father out of his lethargic state in order to create space for her own life.
The story of the Red Ants which remind her of her mother, help her to manage the long good-bye from childhood.
