Hong mian´ao - The red jacket

Sometimes a red jacket makes the whole difference, at least in childhood memories. A little girl of the Miao minority in southern China discovers a red jacket with flower motifs at the market. She desires it more than anything else for the Chinese New Year Celebration. But her familiy cannot afford it. Her grandmother however would do anything to make her happy. She even gives away her silver earrings, a gift from her husband who passed away some time ago..
The film is about the universal desire for a good life things that are really important in life. For the first time in modern Chinese film the landscape and the culture of the Miao tribe play an important role.
